So here's what I should take from this thread;
The Fresh Talent Scheme is a great way to stay in Scotland and have a good chance of finding an employer who will do the paperwork necessary for a WP as well as help you navigate the streets of the city you decide to live in.  And while obtaining a WP is difficult, driving in Edinburgh or Glasgow is even a greater challenge.
One thing I know for certain n;Duechars IPA is the best national beer n the UK.

Has anyone here gone through the Fresh Talent Scheme and found work?  I'm just wonderng f having the extra two years helped finding employment.

The scheme was only rolled out in 2004, so this will be the first year anyone may have to move from FreshTalent to WP.

Again I have a friend who got a fresh talent visa after her student one expired last year and has unfortunately not found anything in her area of expertise. However she signed up with a temp agency and has found an excellent company (doing admin work) who has taken her on permanently. She doesnt need to apply for a work visa yet but when the time comes if she decides this company isn't for her I imagine that she still has a year and some months to find a company she wants to work for.

This was the advice I was given by the Immigrations officer... get the fresh talent visa next year and then you'll have time to decide what company is right for you and not just taking the first one because it means a work visa. Which from their point of view is good... because that means you'll find a place that you'll be happy with and will settle in Scotland permanently.

yea yea... well I find that if I get goin in the wrong direction anywhere in Glasgow...it takes me a year to find any suitable place to turn around. So I'm lost for a total of an hour no matter what. HAve had more bad experiences than good ones on their grid system.

And all them one way streets. Argh. And the sweepin generalization about Edinburgh being prettier... oh poo. I'd prefer to live here full stop. Once a place is home... you have to stick up for it. So bah humbug to Glasgow and all of its wrongness.  [smiley=bootyshake.gif]

I'm sure that Glasgow is gutted at losing you.  :-X

Perhaps the fault lies not with Glasgow, but with your astonishing inability to navigate such a simple grid system?  Perhaps car-pooling would be a better option for you...

So bah humbug to Glasgow and all of its wrongness.

And with that kind of attitude, I'm quite certain you wouldn't be very popular in Glasgow anyway.  They tend not to suffer fools gladly.  :)

I've been told my sense of humour is a bit....different....so not sure how you should feel about my finding this funny!  But I did!  ;D

Good luck w/your studies and your visa quest.  And hope your kitties enjoy Scotland as well.  I've been looking at bringing my daughters' cats to Scotland when we return, probably as soon as school is out....if we could dig up the $$$ I would DEFINITELY do it via QM2 again.  It's actually not too expensive for the cats ($300 each, I think?), it's the fare for the children giving me heartburn.... ::) ;)

Yet they manage to put up with you.  :P

Aww, is that the best you can do?  :)  Really, I thought I'd get a better quip than that out of someone as self-righteous as you.  *tsk tsk* What a pity!

For the record, I really doubt you'll get a working visa with an attitude like that.  Employers can smell arrogance a mile off.  Best of luck, though!  ;D
