london for thanksgiving
« on: March 31, 2006, 03:05:55 PM »
hey y'all.

my best friend and i are trying to put together a week in london for our thanksgiving break. ive read through some of the other topics about hotels in london, but i was wondering if anyone knew of a good, CHEAP hotel. were both college students and dont want to stay anywhere dodgy, but we are on a budget. any suggestions? also, he's never been before, so i was wondering where abouts you would suggest looking for a hotel that will be closer to some of the more tourist-y places.
thanks so much for any help!

If you look on the travelodge site, sometimes you can get £25/night.  They are very bare bones, but are clean and safe.

Try looking around Earls Court, it's central and there are a lot of smaller/cheaper hotels & B&Bs around there, popular with backpackers & students.

Don't know if you would mind staying in a hostel, but last summer a friend and I stayed in the YHA hostel very close to St Paul's Cathedral.  It was very clean and quiet and the full English breakfast was great!  I don't have the YHA website but I'm sure you could find it if you did a search.

You don't have to be a YHA member to stay there either (although I think they charge a little more for non-members).

You probably can.  I just remembered some friends of ours stayed at the Jurys Inn in Angel Islington last year, they had a famly room for £80 a night.  Just look around for special deals.

I live very close to the Jury's Inn in Islington. Very convenient safe location and it's walking distance to my cool neighborhood, Angel!

By the way, the US Embassy in London every Thanksgiving posts a list of restaurants where you can get a traditional Thanksgiving meal!  I know the Hard Rock Cafe, Texas Embassy and Bodean's Cafe are some places that offer this dinner.
