homemade pizza crust
« on: April 10, 2006, 05:59:00 PM »
Ok, I briefly searched the food thread but there are thousands of them! Does anyone have any good homemade pizza crust recipes. i prefer to do MOST of my cooking without premixed ingredients.   I have tried a few i found on the internet but it just doesn't seem to be "the one"!

I have one rising right now!

1 1/2 cups wholemeal flour
1 packet yeast
1 cup warm water
1/2 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp basil
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp thyme
1/4 tsp dried red pepper flakes

Add the packet of yeast to 1 tbsp flour and 1/4 c warm water.  Let sit for 15 minutes.  Meanwhile, mix other ingredients (minus the water) together.  After the starter is ready, add it, along with another 3/4 c of warm water, to the flour mixture.  You'll need to add another 1/2 to 3/4 c of flour to the mix, depending on how moist the air is.  Knead for 10 minutes (the dough will be very moist and a little sticky).  Put it in an oiled bowl and cover with clingfilm for 1 hour.  Divide into two balls and shape into pizza bases, top with your choice of toppings, and bake at 230C for 15 minutes.

Wow! I just made this, Lola, and it's absolutely fantastic!  That was a good choice. Had a bit of a problem at first as it was quite sticky but I added a bit more flour and it was great.  Thanks again!  If anyone else has some please feel free to post. I love pizza and always love to try out pizza crust recipes!

Mine is pretty similar to Lola's only I vary the spices and sometimes do half white half wheat or even add some semolina to the bottom when rolling it out.

I use strong white bread flour and it makes the crust more dough-y, which I like!
