Driving Steps
« on: April 12, 2006, 12:40:49 PM »
I really want to get my UK license, although I don't have a car yet. I'm curious though, about what the steps are. I understand that I have to get a provisional license. However, once I get that and take whatever written test do I have to have a certain number of hours behind the wheel with an instructor or anything or can I dive right into the test and bada bing bada boom have a new addition to my wallet? Thanks for the help!

There's no requirement that you have lessons at all. But I think most of us here benefited a great deal from having at least a couple of sessions with a good instructor. Even if you've driven for years in the US, there are tricks to driving in the UK that are slightly different -- and that you'll need to know in order to do well on the practical test.
