White Coat Syndrome.....ARRGGG!!!
« on: April 20, 2006, 07:55:11 AM »
Ok, this is the deal. I've seen a couple specialists, had a million, (well not quite) horrible tests done, and they wanna take my gallbladder out. It's full of stones, and don't even work anymore.
Ok, that's really not a prob, I would be willing to have it taken out. The prob is my blood pressure, which EVERY time I go to see a doctor, goes sky high. Like ridiculously high. The bottom number goes nearly up to 120. Of course, when I went for the asessment prior to having surgery, which had already been scheduled, the BP was high, and they put off the surgery and said to have a doctor sort out the b.p. So, I've seen a doctor, and before I went I took my bp at home, the reading was normal, and the doc was genuinely puzzled. Actually said, I don't know what to do.....she opted to put me on a low dosage bp medicine, and told me to keep a diary of my readings at home, and to come back in two weeks. However, I'm not taking the pills, because the readings have been normal, and I don't really see a need to take them, even though she had said, they won't make it any lower than normal.....and I know that even on the meds, when I go in, it will go high anyway. At this point, I'm ready to just say screw it to the surgery, and I told the doctor that.......ahhhhhh...this is making me nuts..anybody else have this prob??

Ca girl - I had the white coat syndrome issue as well. Its high normal at the doctors but low normal when I take it at home.

A possible option for you would be to ask for a 24 hr monitor. Recently a co-worker needed back surgery and when he went for his pre-op, his was sky high so they put him on a 24 hr monitor. Everything came back ok and he went on to have his surgery. Maybe that could be an option for you.

I hope things work out for you!

My dh has this big time. His blood pressure shoots up. His GP suggested coming in and just having an appt. with the nurse to have it checked and not seeing him at all.... It'll be interesting to see if that makes any difference.

The doc didn't even suggest the 24 hour monitoring, perhaps I'll mention that in the next visit. I think maybe because I am monitoring it myself at home.....anyway..thanks for the input!!
