Anyone ever been to Kerala?
« on: May 05, 2006, 03:27:16 PM »
I'm a research geek when it comes to trips...and of course, a honeymoon or destination wedding is the biggest trip I can think of (in my life right now)...one area that we're considering is the Kerala coast of India (neither of us has been, it'd have lots of meaning to us both...).  Has anyone ever been and have thoughts or suggestions?

No, but I have an uncle from there.  I hear it's got some amazingly beautiful beaches.

Nope, I've only been to Goa in that part of India, which was great.  My parents went to Kerala in 2004 have loved it.

I'm afraid I haven't been but I've heard that the education rate is one of the highest in India, something like 90% get through school.  Also, it is meant to be one of the most beautiful parts with good beaches.

Last fact is that they speak a language called Malayalam which is a Palindrome!
And the world first spoke to me in Sensurround

G - where did you stay?  what part where you in?

We were all over the coast - we took a train into Trivandrum first and spent 2 days there.  I think Kovalam Beach is there - very beautiful and lots of resorts and things to do there.  Then we went did a driving trip to Thekkady, Munnar, and Alleppey.  I think it was in Alleppey where we took an overnight houseboat - just the two of us on this big houseboat with a crew of 3 or so.  They steered the boat down the river and cooked us dinner, lit a fire for us, we just sat and watched the river and the sunset, had some drinks and dinner...it was amazing.  Very peaceful and relaxing - I would recommend anyone do this if they can!!  Then we went to the tea gardens in Munnar, which is like a hill station, and the wildlife sanctuary in Thekkady (I think it was there).  I think we flew out of Cochin eventually?

I think Trivandrum is where you are at the very tip of India and on one beach you can see the sun set in the evening over the horizon and then see the sun rise in the morning over the same horizon...amazing experience.

I've been. I'll PM you about it later this week after my Mom leaves!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
