Isn't it just my luck?
« on: August 10, 2006, 12:48:13 PM »
Two week before the wedding, the fiance is flying over on sunday and airlines are going mad over this terrorist thing. Obviously I'm so grateful that they've managed to uncover and stop the plan for the attacks in time but it couldn't have come at worse time for us (well except on sunday would have been worse).... not only am I now worried his flight will be cancelled or something but naturally I'm scared for his safety!

Not what I need two weeks before the wedding  :(

I know, I woke up to about 10 emails from my fiance about the situation lol.

But both he and my dad said that there's never been a case where the attack plan has come out to the public and still occured.... if authorities know about it and take action to stop it and everything goes public, terrorists will back off because they know they have no chance of following through at that point. So hopefully it's just an annoyance and no real danger... but America too has raised it's alert level to the higher ever. My fiance said either they're massively overreacting or something really huge was planned. Thank God they managed to stop it, if they hadn't, my fiance could have very well been on one of the targeted planes!

He'll make it safely  ;)  It was a good idea to give yourself 2 weeks...plus, he'll then be over jetlag!

I hear you,
I have been getting calls, emails and a few snide comments (which I think are supposed to be funny jokes about me meeting the Queen but I don't find them funny at all).  I don't mind a longer wait, I don't mind not being able to bring hand luggage on the plane but I do mind not being close to Roy again......THAT scares me.  I know 3 weeks is a long way away but I am already scared, I can't even imagine how I am going to be when I fly. Why oh why is it that one or 2 people spoil the fun for those of us who are trying to do things the right way.  Does anything think this might end up being an immigration nightmare for me. and the others of us that are flying into the UK?  I am already nervous about meeting face to face with another IO is not my idea of fun, not that I have anything to worry about I have a straight forward case, and I have my visa and supporting documents ready to go.

I actually wanted him to come over sooner lol but his vacation time wouldn't allow it.

And I have to admitt... I originally gave him a hard time because we said he'd come over 2 week before the wedding and he scheduled the flight for 12 days before, not 14 lol.... I know it was only 2 days but I was really missing him. Well now who's grateful for the 2 day delay! He would have been flying over tomorrow which would have been worse at this point.

I'm with you on the anxiety front!  Chris is flying over on the 27th - two weeks from Sunday - to visit, and also to give me the documents I'll need for my visa interview that last week of August (if they ever release any more dates, that is). He's flying back on September 8th, then I'm following him back on the 16th with a ton of my stuff and THEN flying back on the 22nd to finish up vet visits, etc. before flying over for good with the cats on the 3rd of October.  Not to make light of a serious situation, but this is NOT a good time for the airlines to start going crazy! :P

It's still safer to fly with all this craziness than to walk on a sidewalk...you're more likely to be killed in the latter situation than flying!  And just think...it's now even safer than before...they have dogs checking the packed luggage and no carry-ons...it's more going to be a pain than unsafe.

I know, I go back and forth between thinking "what horrible timing" and "I should just be grateful they stopped it!" lol.

I'd definitely rather it be an annoyance than unsafe... better to be safe than sorry! And I did hear that they're saying right now is the safest time to fly with all the boosted security... but then again, with normal security there isn't a major threat of terrorist attacks so somehow it should all even out in my logic lol.

Thanks everyone for your reassuring words!
