Scrapbooking

Okay, I hear scrapbooking talked about all of the time, and I really don't know what it's about, other than a scapbook which I generally have dealt with. Clue me in please?

I really don't have a clue either, Leah.  From what I see online, it seems like a highly decorative photo album with borders, cutouts, buttons, writing, etc on the pages.  (I'm sure that's a rather simplistic explanation)

I'm trying to gather together the best pictures I've taken for each month of Niall's first year.  I'll give each month/page a theme (spring, summer, first tooth, etc) and decorate it accordingly.

I was really lucky that my best friend was a consultant for Creative Memories.  She gave me a host of pens, cutouts, albums, page covers, and decorative scissors.  Now I just need to find the time to Photoshop the pictures, then have them printed.

BTW, I use Photobox to print my digital pictures.  The pictures are rated for 150 years and I've been pleased with the quality and speed of their service.

Yep, it's like a creative photo album - though my scrapbooks always contain more non-photos than photos... I keep tickets, napkins, ribbons, and other flat souvenir things to glue in there.

I never buy the special papers or anything, I have much more fun being creative with it and making my own borders, coloring with markers, using glitter and stencils... I just finished my wedding scrapbook and it was a blast! I told a story in it with big letters, a sentence a page, and glued in time-appropriate items. I bought a blank scrapbook for a Guest Album, and then started the scrapbook around everyones signatures. It's neat!

It's time-consuming, but super fun, and a lot cooler to look through than a photo album...  

I had an idea it was something like this, but didn't have time to investigate let alone get into it, but it sure sounds cool.

I like scrapbooking too. Im working on my wedding one at the moment. Its a big album and we dont have very many pictures from our wedding but Ive managed to make it more of a "our first years together" scrapbook. Its got our wedding photos, confetti from the wedding etc, as well as pictures, boarding passes, reciepts from our first trip to the states together (our kindof honeymoon), stuff from our first house like the original details I got from the estate agent with my nervous scribbles all over it from when I made the call to offer on the house.

scrapbooks are memory books. I find them more nostalgic when you look back at them because you forget little details from day to day but having something like the reciept from a dinner reminds you ... "Oh my god yeah! that steak was fantastic!! ... remember when..."

My grandma is working on a huge scrapbook for me with all the stuff she saved from my school years I cant wait to see it someday. It'll be such a wonderful thing to have.

I've really gotten into scrapbooking the past few years.  I am just finishing up an album all about our 'UK Adventure (so far)'.  A really good resource for learning about scrapbooking is UKScrappers. http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/
They also have message boards and links to vendors in the UK who sell supplies.

I find it's a fun way for me to showcase our photos, which we take a lot of (I am in no way caught up and probably will never be!)  As someone else said, they are "memory books" - my DH and DS really like looking through the albums and reading what I wrote about an event.  They will sometimes contribute too.

Be warned - it can be addictive, LOL!

Thank you for the explanations. I wish I had time for something like this, maybe someday. I do keep things for scrapbooks, but like my photos, they're all in boxes right now. :-/
