finally getting organized
« on: May 16, 2006, 12:21:11 PM »
Well, with less than 4 months left (having been engaged for 2.5 years now) we finally found a band and photographer and celebrant over the weekend.  Seems I work better with a deadline.  We are having a humanist ceremony and the woman who will conduct the ceremony is just fantastic.  I got my dress last month, so now all of the big things are booked.  Whew!

I'm sure having all that booked is a big load off your shoulders.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a humanist ceremony?  It sounds very interesting.

Well done for the progress you've made :)  It's a nice feeling, isn't it?

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a humanist ceremony?  It sounds very interesting.

Humanism is an organisation that believes in being a good person and treating others with respect without regard to social/religious/political standing.  We aren't religious, but the civil ceremony was seeming like a dry and impersonal option.  Humanists are now legal celebrants, and can marry a couple anywhere as they carry their own registry, whereas, with a civil ceremony, it is the place that must be registered to have a civil ceremony recognized as legal.  We had a meeting last weekend, and will have another 2 or so to design our wedding, vows etc., so it is kind of tailor made for us.  You can get more information here www.humanism.org.uk
