an Entry clearance for Work Permit Holders and his family

Hi all
I do have some questions  about an Entry clearance  Visa  for Work Permit Holders  and my family.
I am planning to come first in June and my family will follow me by the end of august.
I do have some these questions below :

1) what is  the normal validity of VISA for my family ?

2) Do I need  to have four applications for each member and pay $169 for each?
    or how many applications Do we need to fill ? Do I need to fill an application for each kid ?

    "Dependants - Please note: A separate application form, fee and set of supporting documents should be submitted
      for every individual applicant"
 

3) what is  Letter of intent

4) Should I mail or apply on person
   Mail applications:
   "Apply using the online system and Federal Express. We will return your documents to you using Federal Express
     overnight delivery, normally within 5 working days. We will update you by e-mail at each stage of the process
     and inform you of the dispatch date and FedEx tracking number."
will really NY consult delivery them in 5 working days  ? what is your experinces with NY office ?

Your family's visa is valid as long as yours is.  That's why it's called a work permit dependent.

Yes, you have to apply for each member and pay for each. 

Don't know what you mean by letter of intent.  I didn't do one for my entry clearance on my work permit.

Applying by mail can take longer than 5 days.  Applying in person means it's all done the same day.  The major difference is price.

6) Letter of intent:
If you or your spouse or partner do not attend this office in person we will require a letter stating your intention to either join or accompany your spouse to the UK. This refers to the initial entry, if you travel with your spouse/partner you will be accompanying, if you wish to join your spousepartner in the UK at a later date then you will be joining your spouse/partner. Please note that the dependant may not precede the work permit holder to the UK

Now *I'm* confused.  You asked what it was, Kristi said she didn't know.  Then you posted what it was, which means you would have known it prior to asking. 

Was your original question malformed? 

I think he posted the question before doing research, then edited the message when he found the info shortly after.

I have a question about the validity period of my wife's visa.  Her visa is a work permit dependant visa, but the visa states it is only valid for 6 months rather than 2 years like mine.  Does anyone have any information on why this might be?

That is strange.  The dependent visa is usually issued in line with the main applicant.

Did you apply at the same time?

Yes, the applications were in the same envelope and our passports and documents were returned in the same envelope.  I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and pay the $2.10/minute fee to talk to somebody (absolutely ridiculous) because if I don't I imagine we'll be paying 335 pounds further down the line to apply for her FLR.

How much time did your application took by mail?   
I did send mine 22 May and I am still waiting for it.

I overnighted it on a Monday and received the visas on the Friday of the same week.
