I am in the US and applied for my British passport on April 14th via the British Consulate in Washington DC, and it was sent back (they needed added documentation) and I resent it on May 5th, they charged my Visa card on May 30th.  How long from the charge to shipment?  Any ideas?  After 7 weeks I am feeling a bit impatient and have been calling FedEx daily to see if they shipped the passport (the Consulate doesn't send comfirmation of processing or a tracking number - you are just supposed to be home at the right time to sign for the packet or you don't get it).  I am feeling frustrated!

TIA

If they only charged your credit card a week ago I wouldn't worry. When I got my British passport sent from the embassy in DC it took about 2-3 weeks from the time they charged my credit card until I actually got the passport.

I think mine arrived about a week and a half to two weeks after they charged the card. This was recently, so that should be fairly accurate.

Edited to add:   I'm dumb dumb dumb today... this was my replacement US passport I was talking about.

I just popped onto the Embassy website for another matter, and found this:

http://www.britainusa.com/sections/index_nt1.asp?i=41001&L1=10080&L2=41001&D=1

"London is experiencing technical difficulties with the passport issuing system and until further notice we cannot guarantee our 10 day delivery times for issuing passports. We are looking at applications with travel dates and these will be prioritised as soon as the system is restored."

I went through the same thing recently... and I ended up receiving my passport approximately 2-3 weeks after my card was charged.  I wouldn't worry, I found I stressed for nothing :)

If you haven't received anything after 3 weeks, you might want to call the enquiry number listed on the website.

Btw, the britainusa website has had that technical difficulties message posted now for a few months.  Not sure if they keep it updated or if it is just a warning so people don't keep calling them to ask the status.

Thanks!  I thought I had a rough time with my US passport with all the info I had to provide and I thought my British passport would be so much easier since it is my birth country - NOPE!  I am learning to "cool my heals" a lot - lol!

Patience is a virtue,  Patience is a virtue, Patience is a virtue, Patience is a virtue, - if I keep telling myself this I might actually believe it!
