Which visa is right for you
« on: June 12, 2006, 04:45:40 AM »
I was wondering if there was anything online that was like a quiz (er something of the sort) to let you know what visas you qualify for. We are trying to move ASAP after graduation (if I could be on the plane that afternoon I would be thrilled!) and I just dont want to get thrown through the system with no outcome. Also, Im in the process of getting my passport (just waiting for the paperwork to go through) and I was curious if I could go ahead and apply for a visa now before I get it. Which does and doesnt make sence......

I don't know a lot about it, but I had a look at the UK visa site, and it has a questionnaire you fill in to see if you need a visa and what kind you qualify for. Have you been on there?

You can't apply for a UK visa without a valid US passport first because you have to send your passport to the consulate.  Why are you looking to move to the UK?  That can narrow down rather quickly what visa you're eligible for.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

There are a lot better job oppurtuinities for me there than over in the states.
After I graduate, I may be able to squeeze into the HSMP, and I would be a perfect candadite for the Science and Engeneering visa except that I didnt have any courses in the UK. Ive been to a number of websites and I have had absolutely no luck finding about any place locally that helps people get their visas. I did find a 900 number to call for help, but with my luck it is $5 a minute to listen to an automated message maze!!!

You won't find people in the US who can help you get a UK visa - you will have to contact a firm in the UK.  Look on www.oisc.gov.uk for a list of immigration consultants.

Once you graduate, if you get a job offer from a UK company you may be able to get a work permit.
