I already have an NHS number...
« on: June 06, 2006, 05:57:16 PM »
Tristessa's post on the registering with the NHS thread reminded me of an issue that I'm going to deal with when I move over on my student visa in a couple of months (since I'm going to be a student in England for a year+ I'm entitled to NHS treatment.) I was an exchange student last year for just a semester and so didn't qualify for regular NHS coverage...however care at the uni's surgery was still free.  When I registered with them I got a card in the mail a few weeks later with an official NHS number on it, which surprised me a little.  Now that I'm going back can I still use the NHS number I was given, or do I get a new one?  Just wondering if anyone would know...

I think you always have the same one no matter what - it's been discussed before if you do a search...

You do use the same one. I used to live here during high school/uni  and when I moved back 3 years ago, all they needed was the name of my doctor & the town where the surgery was located and they pulled it up from old records.
