Wet passport!
« on: June 28, 2006, 06:00:47 PM »
Ugh, what more can go wrong? The other day I opened a savings account and needed my passport. I put it in the middle pocket of my handbag for safe keeping. I put a water bottle on the outside pocket. The water bottle leaked all over my bag, but I forgot my passport was in there so I just left it to dry. I took out my passport today and the cover and back were all wet. You can see all of my details, but along the edges you can see where the ink ran. My fiancee and FLR are fine, they weren't damaged at all. It's only the cover and back. All of my stamps are fine and all of my info is fine. But I'm still petrified they're going to think it's a fake. I can't get a new one since we're leaving for London tomorrow. Has anyone had a wet passport that they used? I think I'll be ok, but I'm still a bit nervous.

My last passport had a tiny bit of smudging near the edge from water.  I never had any problem until I went to get a copy certified at Barclays over here.  The guy actually told me that he was concerned that it was smudged and asked if I had had any problems with it before.  Um...no not at all!  Anyway no one ever bothered me about it although yours sounds like it's more affected than mine was.  What about the bar code that gets scanned?  I'm assuming that's alright.  I'm sure it'll all be fine...you can't be the only person in the world to get their passport wet.

There's some of the ink on the barcode, but it's not destroyed. The numbers under the barcode are still readable. The barcode is still there, it hasn't faded, so I hope it's still ok. I'll just have to get a new passport when I get back.  :-\\\\

DH had his passport in his back pocket during a football celebration in Trafalgar square and was dancing around in the fountain. He had forgotten it was there.  His passport got all soaking wet and had the same thing happen with the edges but he never had it questioned.  He then went to Romania, Belgium, U.S, France and still never was questioned. I think you will be just fine!  :)

While visiting London last month my friend and I got caught in a soaking rainstorm and I had forgotten that I'd left my passport in my rucksack, which also got soaked!!  :o  I did not discover this until we got back to our hotel room.  Immediately I blotted what water I could, then stood the passport on its end to facilitate its drying out.  By the morning, it was dry, also with a little help of the hair dryer in the room.

I was worried that upon re-entry into the US I would be questioned about the speckles on my passport photo page, but nothing was said.  The barcode and my photo and vital info were not disrupted, so I guess the IO thought everything was ok and welcomed me back home.

Did quite freak me out though, this experience!
