Registering was Easy
« on: July 01, 2006, 06:09:48 PM »
Paul was off work on Friday. Since Emmie is due for her immunisations soon, he took me to register with the primary care doctor. We registered at the Hanley Primary Care Center in North London (Paul has been registered with them since he was born). It was great. No problems whatsoever. I had to see the nurse practitioner for a general checkup that same day. And they scheduled Emmie for her well-baby checkup on Monday afternoon. Honestly, I had heard not so good things about NHS, but from my experience so far it is superior to the care I received in the US. My nurse practitioner explained everything she was doing and gave me my results and what they meant. Few doctors or clinics in the US take such care. We went in the afternoon and there was hardly anyone there. It was a clean and well-maintained facility. I really can't say enough nice things about them.  :) ;D

Wow, you're pretty lucky!  I think it varies from place to place (and sugery to surgery) how good they are.  Here's hoping things go smoothly when I register with a new GP soon (we've just moved from Leighton Buzzard to Coventry).

Our new GP surgery is FAB and just up the road.  My SIL and her family have been there for 8 years.  We registered on Friday and they got Roisin a check up appointment AND a GP appointment to see about getting her the Prevenar jab early.

SO nice not to go back to that snobby, ignorant git.

and we just registered with a dentist finally in York- she's Polish!

I'll try to be nice in saying this, but my experience with English GP's, nurses, health visitors, etc.  equates to a lot of annoying little comments. I was dreading the experience, but so thrilled when I realized she wasn't English. My husband who is British felt the same way.

She just got in there, did the exam and no commenting. So appreciated.
