Refridgerator Thermostat
« on: July 24, 2006, 07:58:03 PM »
Please i need help with the way thermostat works. My fridge has 1 - 7 on the thermostat and it is currently on 7 which i assume should be the coolest. I have noticed that few things are going bad in my fridge, even though the freezer portion is frosty.

The question here is 'is it the higher the number the cooler it is or the other way round'. I know normally for temperature the lower the figure the cooler the temperature, does the same principle apply to fridges and freezers or different product has different temperature regulating style.

Check your manual.  Ours is higher = cooler, though.

Yes,normally the higher setting is coolest, also check that the flaps in the tray under the freezer compartment are in the position needed to allow the cold air into the fridge itself.

The same thing happened to our fridge/freezer and we had to eventually get a new one. What was happening was the freezer part would freeze up with thick ice and the fridge wasnt cooling enough.

Daver & Lola

Thanks for your help.

Daver i am sorry to say this, but i don't seem to understand 'the tray under freezer compartment' you mentioned and the flaps in there. What is the normal position to put it (hope this doesn't sound so stupid).

If you don't mind, kindly explain further.

Thanks

If its the same type as everyone we've had, underneath the freezer part is a slide out tray at the rear of which are two hinged flaps, these need to be folded so that the cold gets from the base and rear of the freezer into the fridge.

The question here is 'is it the higher the number the cooler it is or the other way round'.

I don't recall ever seeing a fridge/freezer which had the dial marked as anything but higher number = colder.

However. if you start at the low end of the dial and slowly increase the setting, you should hear the point at which the compressor starts up.  That will confirm which end of the dial is cold and which is "warm."
