Angel food cake - help please!
« on: July 07, 2006, 08:21:34 PM »
Hi All!

I have a box of angel food cake that my Dad sent to me but unfortunately I don't own (nor can I find) a tube pan to bake it in. Does anyone know of an alternative pan that I can use? I thought I could just pour the batter into the holes of a cupcake pan but maybe they would rise too high or overflow. Any ideas?
Who ate all the pies?

Just put them in another cake pan. It doesn't have to be a tube pan...does it? lol I'm all doubting myself. Umm...I think they'd be okie in the cupcake pan. Fill them half way or a little less...it's a premixed box of the cake batter so it should be okie.  :-\\\\

Good luck! let us know how it turns out.

What works really nice when you don't have the actual angel food cake pan is a loaf pan like you would use to bake a loaf of bread. If you have 2 pans, that's best.  Then you can put 1/2 the batter in each and bake at the same time.  If not, then use only 1/2 the batter in the loaf pan and cool - then do the other, but rebeat it a bit before baking.   Leave it in the pan to cool but turn it over on it's side.  Then you can cut nice slices after you take it out of the pan.  Yes, cupcake pans will also work but you will more likely than not have a mess in your oven...little "angel turds" all over! ;D  And then enjoy with all the fresh strawberries that are available at this time! Ditto what Deinator said..

use a loaf pan or you will likely get overflow...

Thanks so much for your help! I will use the loaf pan (I only have one) and see how it goes - I will let you know how it turns out - thanks again!

P.S. My husband loved your 'angel turds' reference... !

I found my tube pan at TKMaxx.  It can be a bit hit or miss, but you can find the odd baking pan there.   :)
