Public BBQ's?
« on: July 09, 2006, 08:49:06 PM »
Hubs and I have been talking about doing a bbq. However, we are in a flat and would prefer to do it out somewhere. Do they even have public bbq pits anywhere in this country? The way they have them at parks and beaches in the states? Or can you take your own out and use it in a public place? Just wondering, thanks for any input.

There was a family using a throw away BBQ in Green Park yesterday.  No one stopped them.  I would assume it's dictated by park rules.  All the royal parks in London have their own websites, which I bet would have rules listed.

I have never seen a public bbq pit anywhere in this country. It doesnt mean they dont exist. But in 14 years of travel I havent come across one.

There was a family using a throw away BBQ in Green Park yesterday.  No one stopped them.

I assumed that it was against the rules to BBQ in the Royal Parks.

I would have assumed so too, but this family was practically burning a tree the flames from their tiny BBQ were so big.  Especially seeing as the parks look pretty dry this summer, I would check out websites for parks before packing in the portable BBQ.

Yeah, we were right, it was illegal

http://www.royalparks.gov.uk/press/current/press_release_88.cfm

They seem to be banned in all Royal Parks, all parks in Lambeth (which includes Clapham Common) and I think that you may have to do a ring round befor eplanning naything as each park and borough has its own rules.

The students here had loads of disposable barbecues in the local park and left burnt marks all over the grass, which doesn't look good at all.
