Internships
« on: July 06, 2006, 04:42:50 AM »
I'm currently going into my second year at UCLA as an Electrical Engineering major (with an emphasis on Biomedical Engineering). Do you know how/where I can find some internships in related fields in or around London? I found a few with Airbus, IBM, BP, etc. But I was wondering if anyone else here knew of a few. And it'd be nice if you could make sure they were available for non-UK residents.

hey, check with UCLA's study abroad program....I know the study abroad office at my university offered a program which set up semester-long internships in the UK (and other countries) for academic credit.
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

I go to UCLA too! (A History major) - One thing you can do, to ensure all internships are available to you (or even paying jobs) is  to go through BUNAC - www.bunac.org. It gives students a 6 month work permit for anywhere in the UK (no restrictions on hours, companies, anything.) I am currently in London on this permit (taking fall quarter off) and its been a great opportunity. For internships, check the UK "Careers" websites of companies you may want to work for in the future (seems like you have already been doing this.)

Oh, and if you want a purely study abroad programme, the Fall Semester programme in London for UC students is fabulous! I did it last year and it led to my decision to come back on the BUNAC visa. (http://www.isop.ucla.edu/eap/)
