Making a Consular Appointment
« on: July 20, 2006, 11:56:07 PM »
Hi

My partner is just making a proposed civil partner application in person at the NY consulate.

Can I attend the appointment too?

We were slightly confused as none of my info is taken to make the appointment (passport number, name etc.) so presumably they can't make a security check on me upon arrival.  That seems to suggest that I can't attend.

Are we wrong in our assumption?

I believe you can attend the appointment. I'm not really sure though, anyone else know?

There is no security check at your arrival, just show them the paper with your appt. time and then hand over your stuff to be screened for metal objects.  No one even asked me my name when I went in.  You can attend the appointment.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

It isn't like you are sneaking in.  You can definately attend the appointment.  The visa number and the like is to make sure that at least one right person shows up!
