wait time for inperson application
« on: July 16, 2006, 08:39:40 PM »
Hello :)

Right now, I'm in the UK as a visitor, I'll be getting married in about 8 days under the loop hole with the Anglican Church weddings not needing Home office permission.  After that, i'll be heading back to the States to apply for my spouse visa.  I want to apply in person in Chicago, so if there are any real questions or anything I'll be there to answer.  Plus, knowing I have the visa will make my trip back much more relaxed.  How long does it take for them to process applications when done in person? I've heard 2 hours, but that seems a bit optimistic to me.  The Consulate in Chicago's website says that ifyou make an appointment for the morning, you will be able to pick up your documents that afternoon, but does that mean that they make a dicision then as well?

Thanks

Pengi

Yes.  You will have your visa the same day.

I applied in Chigaco last year. I didn't get my visa the same day (because I'd been denied entry to the UK once) but I heard them telling everyone else that they could pick their visas up after 2pm.

Mine did get processed the next day and it was the same for me... I was allowed to pick it up after 2pm.

I applied in LA.  Got my entry clearance the same day, even with a prior denial of FLR.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Bear in mind they may want an interview which (in NYC is usually a week beyond your original appointment).  If they want an interview allow a day or two to hear a decision.
