Citizenship by descent?

Hello All!

I'm new around here, but have been lurking on the site and in the forums for a few days.  My family and I are trying to begin this intimidating journey of moving to the UK.

I was wonderring if anyone on here has any experience with citizenship by descent?  My husband's father was born in the UK and has dual citizenship, and my research seems to indicate that both of his sons (hubby included) are then British citizens by default.  For example:

Has anyone put this to use, and actually gone through the process of immigration with this as a starting point?  What is the next step?  The British Embassy website seems to almost be saying that all he has to do is apply for a British passport?  Can it be that easy?

If your husband's father was a British citizen at the time of your husband's birth, and his parents were married to each other, then it could well be that easy.

I am going through the same process right now. My parents were born in the UK while I was born in the US. I am in my 40's and I spoke with the local embassy and they said that I am a British citizen (I always thought so) and that I just need their birth certificates (originals, not copies) and the details of their marriage.

After that I just present the records and application to the embassy and ten days later the UK Passport will be in my hands.

I'm sorry, it's just that after looking at visa info and work permits and all of that I was stunned that he might just be able to go get his passport and go set up a life over there...wow, we're lucky.

Yes, Ten days.

BUT, and this is the problem for me, that is ten days AFTER you present all of the proper documentation. I am living and working in South Korea. I have my UK birth certificate, I have my parents certificates on order from the UK government (66 GBP for "rush" delivery) and then I need to get a copy of my parents Marriage certificate. So all in all the longest part of the process is actually getting all of the proper records. Those need to be original records by the way, no copies. I have copies but they are not good enough.

Congratulations to your husband on his citizenship!  It does appear, as VictoriaS said, to be that easy, especially if the Brit parent is a male.  For those of us born out of the UK to female Brits, it's a whole other story...
