Honeymoon suggestions?
« on: February 21, 2007, 03:22:04 AM »
We have a tentative wedding date of October 27, 2007.  Getting married here in the US, and may end up going in person to Chicago to get the spousal visa for me to live in the UK.

I suppose Chicago could be used as  "mini" honeymoon if we end up applying in person, but either way, I would prefer something more than Chicago, as I'm not too fond of that city  :-X

Anyone have any suggestions of where to go for a honeymoon?  We're open to any suggestions, just as long as it's not outrageously expensive!

(BTW, how does marriage affect travel on the passport for the honeymoon -- I'm assuming I'd want the spousal visa in it before going out of the country?)

I suppose budget and preference to places you'd like to go to would be a question beforehand but I went to Walt Disney World for mine and LOVED it. I go every year and will continue while I still breathe. NY is a close option from Chicago and although I am biased because I'm from there, it's a FANTASTIC city. You could do a lot of mini sort of honeymoon like places in the US but again budget would decided.

Are you moving right away back to the UK? If so, there are many countries right next door that are inexpensive that time of year. Spain, France (Paris being a GREAT destination) etc.

You need the spousal visa before entering the UK- so if you travel outside of the country on your honeymoon, you have to re-enter the US and get your spousal visa before you leave for the UK (so if you want to take a honeymoon somewhere close to the UK like Europe, you should get your spousal visa before the honeymoon...but if you're going to the Caribbean, it might not be a big deal to stop back into the US to get your visa after the honeymoon.)

If you like wine, you could go to Napa in California...do some winery tours etc.  That seems romantic to me!

Actually, if you like wine, and you are going to be in Chicago anyway, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to sample some great wines in northern Michigan!  It's a good place for a honeymoon, too, I should know....we spent ours there last year!   :)

Send me a PM if you want some recommendations...there are some great wineries around the Traverse City area!  Even if you are NOT into wine it makes for a great place to visit....

It's not very unique, but we went to the Big Island of Hawaii and loved it!  There's an incredible variety of things to do...more so than the other Hawaiian islands from what I've been told.  We got married in October and it was a great time of year to visit.

I'd go to Florida or California to get some warmth and sun in October as you'll be heading toward the dark winter of the UK!  ;)

Maybe check out Apple Vacations? They have great options and are usually affordable, especially if you do one of their last minute deals.

My husband and almost did this but between getting married and going to NYC for the spousal visa before heading back to the UK, we just didn't have time. So we didn't really have a honeymoon at all.
