UK Gift registries (a silly question)

  So I'm engaged and now (as of yesterday!) resident in the west midlands....

Before Mark and I left my brother and sister-in-law pounded into our heads that we should register online (my brother seemed the think the knot.com was the best place) for wedding gifts since the majority of our family and friends won't be able to make the trip over for our wedding in october.

When I went to the knot.com it seems not to include the UK as a geographical area and I wondered if anyone had experience using it, and if so do you have to do anything specific to make sure that things you pick will be shipped from the UK (so that electrical appliances like mixers and such) are UK usable?

If not, can someone recommend a UK site that is the equivalent of the knot.com so we can register? (sorry, but as much as I love my sweetheart, he has like zero cooking equipment and we can't afford all the stuff anytime soon --since we are paying for our tickets back and the cat cargo fees).

I'm sure there must be something out there?

OKl, so they're never called wedding registries in the UK - too much of a potential mix-up with the Registrar.

What you're looking for is called a "wedding list", and I'm sure if you google it, you'll find many stores that have them. The ones that come off the top of my head now are John Lewis (department store) and Amazon.co.uk.

Oooh, also - no, theknot.com doesn't pay attention to anything outside N. America.

from what I've herad do NOT go with wrapit.

We registered at Debenhams and Argos with good results.

Debenham's
they give you £50 in voucher to spend even if no one buys anything
easy for guests to order online
they do add on a delivery fee unless the person buys in-store and takes with them
you can add items from debenham's direct
if total spent is more than £1000 you get a % of it in voucher

Argos
better prices on some of the small appliance type stuff
you can set up the list online and add to it at your leisure
gift vouchers unfortunately must be bought in store, but other items can be via phone or internet
be careful of the change in catalogues at Argos, should be sometime soon might mean you have to change stuff

TheKnot.com definitely doesn't ship to the UK.  I ordered my favours from them and had to have them shipped to my parents' house in NY.  I'll second Debenham's and Argos.  I like the convenience of being able to choose items on Argos' website.

we registered with M&S and OMG what a nightmare they were!

WE got tons of free stuff as they kept sending duplicates!!!!!

Does .co.uk do wedding lists now?  They didn't when we were planning or we'd have added some stuff there.

Yup - not as much as amazon.com...but as we're registering with both it works out!

I enjoyed registering with Debenhams - particularly going through the store with the little scan thingamidge & pointing it at everything I wanted.
