Lodging in Birmingham?
« on: August 01, 2006, 03:57:30 PM »
I've pretty much picked out a hostel in London for my trip in November but I'm planning on staying a couple of nights in or around Birmingham and can't find as much information about lodging there. I'd like to see some of Birmingham while I'm there and I've got plans to head to Wolverhampton for a camera fair on the 26th November (a Sunday.) I've also got a friend in Walsall, which is another reason I'm headed to the area.

I'm probably going to be paying from $38 - $41 per night at the hostel in London. I don't know if there's anything in that price neighbourhood but if I have to pay more, at least it's just for a night or two and not a week.

So, anyone have any experience with hostels/cheap lodging in Brum? ANY helped would be appreciated!

Welcome back Amanda.

I haven't been to Birmingham but here are a couple of my favorite hostel booking sites.

http://www.hostelbookers.com/ (no booking fee)

http://www.hostelworld.com/index.php

I usually read the reviews on both and make a decision that way and book either directly with the hostel or through the site which ever is cheapest.

Good luck!

Thanks, Olive Oyl! I'll look into those sites.

Probably the cheapest hotel in the area will be Travelodge. (www.travelodge.co.uk ) There is one located in downtown Birmingham on Broad street.  If you book at least 21 days in advance and prepay, you can sometimes get the rooms for as low as 10 pounds a night - or 26 pounds if they are out of the 10 pound specials.  Otherwise, they are around 49 pounds.  There are some Ibis hotels in the area too that have cheap rates if your prebook/pay too.  Then there are buses that can get you to Wolverhampton (#126).
