Essure Birth Control?

I've never heard of this before.  It's an alternative to Tubal Ligation. Says it available in the UK, but not sure if it's available on the NHS.

Anyone else heard of this?  Seems like a good, non-surgical alternative to Tubal Ligation.

Not heard of it, but it sounds interesting.

Sounds promising.

One of my good friends had her tubes tied.  She said the gas used to fill up the abdomen was really sore afterwards.  And she did have to have GA.

Last week, I went for a consultation on this procedure (in the US).
I am thinking of having it done.
The part that I didn't like was that three months after the procedure you have to return for an xray.
For the xray, you have to have purple dye injected into the uterus.   Eew.
I'm just wondering how does that purple dye make its way back out.

Well, there is only one way out, isn't there? It would just come out like a period right? Unless anyone else has an idea of it going somewhere else. It also might just degrade in your body, like its a food grade dye that just dissolves on its own.

Don't see where vasectomy is any worse, tbh.

It's also done under local in office.

My BIL had the no scalpel/Chinese needle method back in 1999.  He had it Friday afternoon.  He drove 200 miles that Sunday and was back at work as usual Monday morning.

No risk of ectopic pregnancy, either. ;D

Right.  I was just thinking that it will be weird to see purple coming from there.

Probably gets absorbed into your body, or comes out via the period, I guess.  That *would* be weird!

I'm thinking of having this done when I have the money to do so.  I first read about it on some childfree forums that I frequent.  It's apparently not any more painful than period cramps for most women...and the risk of ectopic pregnancy is pretty low as long as you use another form of birth control until the doctor verifies through an x-ray that you're officially sterilized.

What is the chinese needle method?

It's also called the 'no scalpel' method.  It's the commonly practiced form of vasectomy in the US, altho originates in China, where vasectomy is VERY common.  Quite common here, too, apparently.

Basically pretty in and out.  My sister dropped BIL off at the professional building the urologist worked in and went to park the car.  She got into the waiting room, had barely the time to get comfy w/her cross-stitch, and out walked BIL.

Said the worst part was the local, but he watched the entire thing.

It was over in no time.

6 months later, he got the all-clear, and has never had a problem - or a baby - since.

Free on the NHS or can also get it privately for about £200, if that.

No more 'scary' than tubal ligation.

Anyone know what the minimum age is for to get things like this done?
Although I'm 23 ,Dale and myself don't want any more children for medical reasons, and I'm seriously thinking of getting my tubes tied or something similiar

I think if you're under 25 you can get it done privately, but they'll generally make you go through extra counseling.  I'm not 100% certain on that, though...it's just what a friend (23) who wants to get a vasectomy and lives in the UK told me.

Pretty sure a vasectomy is cheaper than Essure.  Not sure about the cost there, but Essure is anywhere from $1200 to $3000 in the US.

Vasectomy is dead cheap.  In the UK, it's about £200 privately, but the NHS will do it for you as well.
