I love it. You really do need to understand the history of this country in order to make sense of this place!
We just had some friends from Canada visit and in a 45 minute circuit drive, never farther than 15 minutes of our house, we managed to hit Roman, Danish, Norman, Tudor, Victorian and Edwardian History, ending at our favourite pub which is on a working farm that had its heyday post WWII. I never realised the history was all so alive until we added it all up at the end.
Our favourite history show is "Seven Stages of Britain" that they show every once in a while. That has helped us a lot.
