Loan Approval Letter
« on: August 14, 2006, 07:34:58 PM »
Hi everyone!

I hope everyone has settled all their student loan drama....it seems like mine will never end!  Does anyone have a graduate Plus loan with Sallie Mae?  I have been on the phone with them daily for the past four weeks, and though my loan has been approved, they claim they do not send out approval letters for PLUS loans, because they send the approval information directly to the school.  I am flabergasted!  I was flatly told they do not have the capacity to send me an approval letter and a printout from my online account information should be enough to verify that I am receiving the loan.  I don't know what to do, as my visa appointment is on Wednesday morning!  I have printed out the information from the internet, but I am not sure they are going to accept this, and Sallie Mae refuses to generate an approval letter for me!  Just wondering if anyone else is in this boat with me >:(?

wow- that's pretty ridiculous.  I'm assuming you've talked to a supervisor about that?  If you haven't, make sure you get someone pretty high up the food chain to listen to you, and try to get them to at least fax you something.  If I was in your situation I'd also be worried about it.  I mean, how hard can it be for someone to type up a letter, sign it, and fax it to you?   ::)  Anyways, no real advice, just sympathy. Sorry you're having to deal with stupid loan people.

Yeah, I have talked to a supervisor, she was in fact the one that told me that I would not be receiving the fax, email or letter I had requested because "we don't and can't do that" (those were her words)....ugh...I may try again today, I just don't know if I have the energy to argue with them again for 45 minutes, but I guess I don't have a choice....

Where is your appointment?  I went today in NYC, and only had a copy of my loan application - it was fine.

Yes, I just copied the MPN and stuff that I sent to the uni, a copy of an email stating they've recieved it, and handed it over with my application, acceptance letter, and photo - and poof, a visa!  It was really quite easy.  Make sure you security-proof your bag, though - I had to throw out my bottle of water.

Good luck!

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  Visas are in my hand!!!!!!  I had no problems...(except of course that bottle of water I had forgotten I brought with me....)  It was so brief...literally handing over application, financial documents (which it didn't even seem she really looked at), photos and that was that...they didn't even ask for proof of accommodation.....I signed in at 9:36am and signed back out at 9:52am!  I had to go back at 11am to pick up the visas and that was that!  I am so relieved!!!  Now I have to get packing!!!!!!
