(I was lucky enough to born without any...seriously!)

Me too!  :o

Although I do have a 'floating' bicuspid that emerged where one of my wisdom teeth was supposed to be...
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

Apparently my problem (according to my oral surgeon) was that I had "32 teeth in a size 28 mouth"...my wisdom teeth literally had no room to grow in!  I'm glad it's over, and pain meds are the best, let me tell you...

And Paul, thanks for the story, although I'm glad you waited to post until after my surgery! ;)  I agree that anyone who has this issue should get it sorted ASAP- I waited almost five years to get this finally done, and because I waited the surgery was apparently way more difficult than it had to be because my roots had grown so long (meaning they were really close to my nerve on the lower jaw and they had to cut into my sinus in my upper jaw!)  My dentist also told me a story about a girl who had to have the tooth *next* to her impacted wisdom tooth removed as well because she had left it too long and had developed a large cavity in between the impaction and the previously healthy neighboring tooth.

just adding an update as to how I'm doing almost a week later...

There have been ups and downs, but mostly downs, to be honest.  I developed 2 dry sockets (exposed bone) over the weekend and was in constant pain (especially after I ran out of prescription painkillers!) I went in to the doctor's office first thing yesterday and he put some medicated packing in there, which relieved the pain on the left but not so much on the right.  So I went back today and he put a much bigger piece into the lower right socket which is helping a lot.  Now I'm just sore, but no more excruciating pain!  I also am having numbness on the right side of my chin, but apparently it's normal especially since they exposed a significant portion of my nerve during surgery.  I got a perscription for some steroids to speed the healing and the numbness should go away over the next several days/weeks.

So, while the last four days or so have been pretty hellish, I'm *finally* starting to get back to normal, thank goodness :)

Oh man!  I'm so sorry you've had to go through that!  I'm glad you seem to be more on the mend now!

Wow, that's a bummer.  I hope the steroids DO speed along the healing process and you're back to normal soon!
