PETS Scheme (price quote)
« on: May 13, 2007, 06:54:13 PM »
I just got this letter from my local vet which I contacted to ask about the PETS system. Originally I talked to the receptionist and she said she would ask the vet but had no idea what the Defra PETS thing was. However I've since gotten a letter through that sounds to me as if the vet does in fact know what it is. I'm just curious if these prices are as cheap as they sound! My cat is about 13lbs just for background info and only 3 years old.

Examination - Routine - $45
Rabies Feline 1 Year - $21
Avid ISO Eurochip - $65
Medical Waste Disposal - $3
Technician visit (blood draw) - $15
Rabies titer to Kansas State University - $150
Medical Waste Disposal - $3
Examination - Routine - $45
International health certificate - $55
Exam - brief - $25
Drontal for cats - $12.52
Frontline Plus Cats & Kittens - $14.47

"We may be able to draw blood for the rabies titre at the first visit if the cat has been kept up to date on rabies vaccination. Otherwise, we give the rabies shot and then draw blood 4-6 weeks later. The cat is able to go to England six months from the date of the blood draw if the titre is in the accepted range. The second exam is for the health certificate after which the paper work has to be signed by the federal veterinarian. The last brief exam is given 24-48 hours prior to the scheduled flight."

It looks to me as if the vet has covered everything, does anyone else see anything missing?

I can't comment on the prices or anything, as we flew our cats in from within the EU, but the microchip needs to be in before the rabies VACCINE is administered even if the pet has had the rabies shot recently:

If an animal has been vaccinated before it was microchipped, it will have to be vaccinated again.
