Student Visa - how early can you arrive?

I arrived august 6th and my course started sept 21st. I had asked to have it earlier in my letter to the consulate in my application.

I am a student here this year.  My family and I arrived eight weeks ago and I just started classes this week.  There were no problems with entry clearance.  No one even questioned us while getting our visas and stating the dates of moving and date of coursework.  Our visas are good for 1 year 8 months.  We had to come early for my daughter to start primary school
