Got a new computer...it's an HP with a 17" LCD monitor.

1 - The screen seems to have alot of bright whiteness too it. I messed with the settings on the monitor but that just either makes it too dark or too bright there's no inbetween. Any ideas?

2 - Photos look extreamly grainy unless I upload them on this computer from my camera. All the photos I have on myspace and others peoples looks crap and I can't seem to fix that either. ...any ideas?

That's it so far...hopefully it remains good...

It sounds as though you might not have the display adapter set to a suitably high resolution for the color depth.

If you're running the ubiquitous Windows, go to Control panel -> Display -> Settings and see what the adapter is set to.  You'll see options such as 256 color, 16-bit color, 24-bit "true" color etc.

It only gives me two options

Medium (16 bit)
Highest (32 bit)

When I change it I don't see a difference.

O.K., it seems that the display adapter resolution is fine.  Is there any chance you can try the system on a conventional monitor to see what it's like?

Could be, and the picture can be quite variable from one model to another.  Personally, I'm not a fan of LCD screens on computers, and certainly not for TV viewing.   To me, the picture falls far short of anything obtainable with a decent CRT display.
