Finishing Course in UK, Starting Course in Spain

Hi all, this site was a great help when figuring out what I needed to do for my UK visa as a student (and my wife's).  Now we are making a move to Barcelona for another course.  I was wondering if anyone had any experience with applying for a student visa in Spain (as an American in the UK), and the necessary steps.  I am doing other research on this, and will update as I get info, but if anyone has any pointers, it would be appreciated.  One nice thing about the student visa in the UK is that my wife and I can work . . . anyone know if that is the case for Spain?  I know this is UK-Yankee, but this topic might be relevant for others . . . perhaps?  Any insight would be great!

Have not looked into this in a while because I have been busy, but the main question is WHERE do I need to apply?  Can I use the Spanish Consulate in London, or do I need to use the Spanish Consulate for my state in America?  What would be the case to use one or the other?  Surely someone has gone through this  , any help is appreciated!  Thanks!

the answer to that really depends on Spain's rules on this kind of thing.  I know when I was looking into applying for a visitor's visa for France (as a student in the UK last year, before I got US citizenship), the French Embassy in London had some pretty complicated rules as to who could and could not apply from the UK when the applicant didn't hold British citizenship.  (I was actually eligible to apply from the UK, btw- just barely.  I ended up not doing it, though.) 

Your first port of call should be the Spanish consulate/embassy in London- if that info's not on their website, then call them/email them to try and find out.  If you don't have any luck with them, try the embassy in DC.
