BAA Handluggage Update to USA
« on: October 11, 2006, 05:13:15 PM »
Not sure if anyone has posted this, I received an update regarding hand baggage to the US from BAA. Hopefully should be of some help to anyone considering travel to the US.
There have been some further changes to hand baggage restrictions if
you are travelling to the USA.
All passengers flying to the USA, with the exception of those
travelling with Northwest Airlines, can now bring all items purchased
after security on board their flight - this includes all liquids such
as water, perfumes, wines and spirits.

Full details can be found here.

When traveling from the US, you CAN pack things into your handluggage BEFORE arriving at the airport...however, they need to be 'travel sized' items (3oz or smaller) and, as I found out, IN A ZIPLOC BAG...what good that does is a mystery... ??? Travelled back to the UK the first full day after the lift was made on the carry-on limitations, but nothing on the TSA website said anything about having any liquid/gel items in that ziploc....how dumb anyways... ::)

I think the idea behind the ziplock baggie is that way all liquids are easily visible.

I did like it, definitely much better than none at all. I packed some perfume and things like that to freshen up before seeing my boyfriend. I think the ziplock baggie idea is just for things like that.

Just a side note, when they say one piece of carry on luggage they mean ONE piece.  If you have say a little rolling case and your handbag, that counts as too, not matter  how small the handbag is.  I got burned.

I just flew back to Sweden from the UK, not even to the States (last Wednesday), and there was a continuing announcement that one could NOT have make-up, perfume, mouthwash, toothpaste, deodorants, drinks or food in their carry-on bag (Luton Airport).  I wonder what that was about, since I had no trouble bringing that stuff IN from Sweden two weeks earlier.
If you don't know where you're going, it doesn't matter what road you take.
