Anyone get a DLP TV to work over there
« on: October 16, 2006, 04:55:30 PM »
I read that someone got a plasma TV to work, but did any one get DLP projection TV to work?  DH seems to think all he has to do is buy a transformer and a NTSC/PALS converter for it.

Please let me know if you got it to work.

Thanks

The question of regular CRT/plasma/LCD/projection isn't the issue here.  It depends upon whether the circuitry which drives the display (of whatever type) will correctly handle the appropriate NTSC or PAL video signals.

Do you have a make/model number for the set in question?

It's a Samsung HL-S4266W bought in the US.  We were just wondering if the projection screens were easier to adapt unlike regular CRT screens.

The listed specifications are here:

http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/DLPTV/HLS4266WXXAA.asp?page=Specifications

As with most U.S. models, there is no PAL provision, so the composite and S-video inputs would be of no use.  Neither would the integral tuner, as the frequencies here are different.

You might be able to use the component (Y/Pr/Pb) video inputs to display a U.K. 625-line picture from a suitable source, as this bypasses the NTSC/PAL encoding.

It would all depend upon whether the set will synchronize to the slightly different scanning rate.  Given that the TV can also be used as a multi-scanning rate computer monitor, the chances are that it may well do so, but it can't be guaranteed.

We were just wondering if the projection screens were easier to adapt unlike regular CRT screens.

Not especially.  It depends upon the circuitry which drives the display, and that can vary with CRT, LCD, and plasma TVs.
