Housecalls?

Ran to see my gran on my lunch today...she's in her 80's and has had a bad cold for over a week now.  She looks horrible, she sounds like she's going to cough up a lung, can't eat, and pretty much has been staying in bed because she feels so rotten.  I suggested that she should go see the doctor, but she doesn't drive and doesn't feel up to going out, especially as the weather is pretty rotten today.  I'm a bit worried about her...but I don't have a car and can't take her myself.  Do doctors do house calls over here?  I'm tempted to call the medical centre and see if I can get someone out to see her as I'm thinking she might need an antibiotic at least as she may have a secondary infection, and something to help w/the cough would probably be good as well.  All she's been taking is paracetamol...

Ours make housecalls, but I think it depends a lot on the area you live in. However, you should have access to a district nurse. Try calling your local surgery and see if you can get one of them to come out.

Ours makes housecalls in Inverness.  I think most practices do if you request it.  I would call, won't do any harm.  Hope she's feeling better soon.

Well, I'm off to check on her at my lunch.  If she's not any better I'm getting the doctor round...
