My stuff has arrived!!!
« on: February 06, 2007, 11:50:41 PM »
I'm so happy!  It took a bit longer to get things to Wales, but it all arrived today, and so far I've only found one thing that has broken--which was probably more due to our packing than anything.  I don't think I can complain about only one thing having broken.

I went with UPakWeShip.  Allison was great, she helped sort everything out.  If I ever had any questions or concerns, she replied immediately.  It took three months to get everything here--the longest part of which I think was due to the shipping company here in the UK, but they did good with our things, so I'm happy.

Wow, I can't say what a relief it is to have this done.  We ran out of extra funds during the move, and didn't have time to get an insurance list together, so we chose not to insure our stuff.  I'm so happy to see that it hasn't been damaged!  I was worried.

Altogether, it's great news and I'm very happy with the service we've had.

That's always a relief when you see it there safe!  :)  Glad everything made it okay!

Me too!!  It was a relief! ;D ;D ;D

In case anyone is wondering, I sent about 32 boxes (mostly small Uhaul boxes, but two medium (but big!) Uhaul boxes, an extra big one for two paintings I had specially packaged, a scanner in it's box, and a large plastic bin with a lid that had a bunch of clothes.)  It all still came in under 100 cubic feet, so we didn't have any additional charges.

Our costs were a smidge higher than what has been quoted by some others that worked with UPak because we weren't near the coastal cities, so we had to move our stuff from Salt Lake City (the nearest city with a UPak warehouse) to Houston through UPak, that added on a bit and then I imagine getting it to Wales did as well.  I still feel our costs were very reasonable for the amount of stuff we shipped.  I mean every one of these boxes was VERY heavy.  Most of my shipment was full of books.  There were enough that M-bags were not at all practical for me.

It was also nice to have everything brought right up into the flat and put where we needed it.  They even help with furniture reassembly (if we had furniture).  Since our flat is on the third floor (that's US third floor), I hate to think of having to get it all from the post office and up three flights of stairs if we'd gone with other choices.  I've heard complaints about the service on the UK side, but we were pretty happy with them as well.  The UK movers did misplace a few papers, but I just emailed Alison who sorted them out immediately with no worries.  The delivery people were nice and appeared to take good care of things, so I'm counting myself as very lucky there.  I've heard others say that UK movers can be a mess.

All in all, good stuff on my end though.  I'll let you know if I find any more concerns, but it is looking fine so far.

Hooray! Congrats on getting everything (minus one) there in one piece! I've had stuff broken/stolen by movers who just moved me inside city limits!!  ::)

I love UPAKWESHIP.... love them... had great service and would use them again in a heart beat.

Me too and I went with them because you did!  ;)

Only one thing broke in my boxes too, because of how I packed it!!  ::)

I hope they go from the UK to US so I can use them when we move home next year!

Funny Jennredd, because I went with them based mainly on your advice.  I guess we are making a chain!  My only complaint was the timeframe.  It took a long time in both ports, and then getting it here to Wales.  Altogether it took about 3.75 months to get here!  I guess that may be what I get for moving during the holidays.

It's been okay since I brought essentials with me.  Now I'm wondering how much of this crap I really need :) My kitchen stuff was the first thing to get unloaded--that I've missed, but all the living stuff DH already had so now I'm stuck with sorting out what to do with the treasures of trash type stuff and the books that we don't have shelves for yet.

Curious..about how much did it cost you?

okay, so I did the math and I was off.  I don't know how I got that timeline in my head.  It took just under three months.  Alison told me this is longer than they usually want things to happen.  I think it got tied up here for a while.

As for costs, it was $1200 for the shipment from Salt Lake to Houston and then to the Wales via England.  We weighed several of my boxes and they all came in around 50-55 pounds per box.  I'm happy I didn't have to carry 32 of those up to my third floor flat!!
