London Bound
« on: November 07, 2006, 04:04:20 PM »
My family and I are moving to London from NY in Jan 2007 with my job. My office is near Tower bridge. We are considering SW London and Surrey in terms of looking for a place to rent.

Any suggestions on which towns we should look in?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Have you considered/mapped out the commute route yet?

Going on a house hunting trip at the end of the month and plan on doing the commute to see how long it really takes.

Good idea! Good luck. Have you considered Kent?

My husband's office is in that vicinity too.  We originally looked at homes in Surrey but the commute was going to be tough.  First a bus ride to the train station, unless we found a home within walking distance or bought two cars.  Then the train trip was anywhere from 40 to 60 minutes, plus a tube ride.  I'm sorry if this is incorrect, but my recollection was that Woking would offer the best commute as it had a faster train than other stops around there.  The train stations should have a schedule that will show you all your options.

We ended up in Kent, SE of London, which is an awesome commute.  My husband walks to the station and it's a 17 minute ride to London Bridge.

But there's more than the commute to consider, of course.  Good luck with your search.   :)

You can get from Norbiton or Surbiton (near Kingston in Surrey) to Waterlooo in about 25 mins, and then hop on a tube/train to London Bridge in about another five.

Hampton Court also not bad.

Take a look at www.tfl.gov.uk to get timings for your journey.
