I want to incorporate both flags into the reception tastefully and thought of a really good way, but cannot figure out how to do it.

I love the new graphic on UKY with the American and british flag merged into one - I was hoping to have that printed on cocktail napkins or matchbooks. Basically I was hoping to use it in some way to add to the festivities on the day.

any other suggestions would be helpful. I am having trouble finding a place that will take a graphic and superimpose it on the product, most will take your names and date only.

What have others done to incorporate both cultures?

Thanks!

I thought I had my wedding colors picked out years and years ago as most girls do but when I met dh that all changed.  We wanted something that signified the unity between us so we chose the colors, white, blue, and red.  Yes, I stated it that because when you say red, white, and blue everyone thinks patrioticly (?) and we didn't want any element of stars or stripes in our wedding.  Just the common colors.  There were 2 places we incorporated the flag for our wedding.  One was on the flagpole outside the reception hall so people arriving knew that was the place and the other was on our wedding cake topper.  I actually bought a decent wedding cake topper and doctored it up a little to fit our colors.  I painted the flowers the bride was holding red, blue, and white, and the flower the guy was wearing on his lapel the same color dh was going to wear.  On the topper behind the bride and groom, I placed wee little flags.  Around the 4th of July I found some american flags on toothpicks and used that.  It was easy enough to find a clip art flag of the Union Jack and hotglue it on another toothpick.  I ended up hotgluing the small flags on the wedding cake topping and it turned out perfectly!!  Everything turned out wonderfully  and we were so very happy with it all.  It was beautiful!!

The restaurant where we had our reception designed our menu, which was on each place setting.  We had both flags on it and it turned out really nice.

Just a quick question - am I legally allowed to use the UKY logo on anything? I have just emailed a few companies and will find out if they'll use it or not, but I don't want to upset anyone if it's not legal.

Thanks for the ideas - I want to keep it classy and something small, so hopefully the napkins or something else like a caketopper will work.

I'm getting so excited!!

well everyones else's ideas sound better ours sounds so cheesy but we liked it though. we used 2 beanie baby bears. 1 bear was white all over with the Union Jack Flag over it. the 2nd bear was white all over as well but had blue & red stars all over it.with a minature American Flag on the left hand corner of the best chest. we had both bears on the wedding cake table. we also had a Me To You wedding figurine on top of our wedding cake.

I'm having trouble finding anyone to put the graphic on anything else but a pen. I don't know that everyone wants a pen. Anyone know any companies that do graphics onto items? I'll keep emailing.

I didn't go in for a theme with my wedding (well, I lie, but it was a vague garden-y/spring theme), so it wasn't an issue. I worked at making it feel both british and american. BUT at our reception in the UK hosted by PIL, MIL wanted to put both flags as a cake-topper. DH talked her out of it. I guess I saw it not so much as unifying, but making me feel foreign. I'm just not a flag person. My sister did red white and blue for her colors - I couldn't get beyond the patriotic allusion - even though that's not at all what she was doing.

If I'd had a choice, and had to incorporate the flag in some way, I'd get one of those hand-made cake toppers that are sculpted to look like you, and put me in a US flag jumper, and DH in a union jack...  :)

I agree with the handmade 'people' topper idea. I did a wedding two weeks ago where they had the entire family made into edible figures, complete with glasses, lol. I can find out who did the cake for them if you wish. I have pics, but am in the middle of editing the wedding before that one so I havn't edited those pics yet. The kids at the wedding had a blast eating different family members body parts, LOL.

We aren't really incorporating the flags in any way, except for the fact that I'm using this pin on the lining of my dress: http://www.stockpins.com/usa-britain-crossed-flags.html

Pittpanther36, I work in purchasing at an advertising specialties company.  These types of companies work with large vendors to create items with custom logos on them.  Some graphic shops might not have the capability.  So, look the yellow pages of your area for advertising specialties, or promotional products.

Most of those places will have an art department that can look at the UKY logo and create something like it, totally custom just for your wedding.  If you do want to use the logo, I believe you would need the permission of the board owner.  Also, the art dept. will need to do separations etc of the logo to creat camera ready art to send in to the vendor, so it might be just as well to do something custom.  Good luck to you and if you have any questions, let me know!!!!

We kind of incorporated english culture into the wedding by cutting out some american wedding traditions that he had never heard of. No smashing cake in each other faces (I would have killed him if he messed up my make up anyways, I spent $90 to have it professionally done!) and no garter belt event (which he described as "it's like porn!"). And we played some Irish tunes because he's half irish... oh and our introduction song was an Oasis song lol.

We also realized afterwards that without meaning to, our wedding colors were kind of red, white and blue... my dress was ivory and I didn't have any bridesmaids, just a maid of honor who was in a turquoise dress and my mom was in red so I used turquoise and red as my colors. But when we saw some pictures of the three of us together we definitely looked red, white and blue lol.

Well, the hot thing now in weddings is to create a custom logo.  Someone else on here mentioned something about it. There are companies and stationary suppliers that will do this for you.  Although, if they have to create a template it can get expensive.  It's a great way to personalize your wedding.  You could incorporate this into your wedding programs (or Orders-of-the-Day as they say over here) invitations, place cards, etc.  The key to keeping it tasteful is to not over-do it.  Subtle touches here and there will do the trick.

update:

We used the merged american and UK flags from this website on our placecards for everyone's names at the tables. It was the most frustrating and difficult thing due to some software probs and finding ivory plain placecards for printing, but in the end it was well worth the effort.  :)
