When we did our DCF process, we hadn't been married for 2 years yet and I wasn't on ILR (one of the last to be able to do this since the rules changed right after we did it all)... so David was granted a Conditional Residence (I always say Green Card except it is actually beige and not called a Green Card but whatever). Withint 6 months of his 2 year anniversary of claiming residence (ie gettong off the plane in the US) we had to apply to remove the conditions.
The form was the EASIEST form I've ever had to fill out in regards to immigration either to or from the UK, and I've done a lot of forms! I could have sneezed out the answers, and all I had to do was submit photocopies of proof that we were together.
What I wish we had done is to do it earlier... we did it 30 days before his anniversary, but a nice lady on the phone* told me that it usually takes about 30 days before they send us a letter of receipt (not sure of the actual title). The letter they are going to send us will be his temporary approval to extend his green card dates until they can get to his application, which right now is in a 6 month (or so) long wait.
Which is all FINE, except we had a bit of a scare when we thought he'd be having to go to Canada before we got the receipt letter and after his card expired!
So yes.... DO IT EARLY.
*SO nice to get a person! To talk to! I hated that about the US Embassy in London...
