Keeping preganancy a secret
« on: February 06, 2004, 12:41:08 PM »
Help please! I don't want to tell my work I'm pregnant until after my first scan which is another 3 weeks away. So far I've managed this but tonight we are having drinks after work and the boss is even laying on the booze. The trouble is I'm worried that people will notice I'm on soft drinks as I am usually the first one running for the corkscrew at 4.30 and well known for enjoying a few Friday night drinkies especially if they're free!! I am finding it hard to think of any plausible sounding reasons to tell people why I'm not drinking. Any ideas???

What about saying you're on meds that clash with alcohol and that it would just knock you out- put you to sleep? My husband was on some meds recently and they explicity say on the pack not to consume alcohol during the course of the meds!

It's one idea!

Jenny's is a good idea.  You could also do the dodgy tummy excuse.

I would have said the meds as well. You could probably even ask your heath visitor for a name of one that you could use so that your story would be sound. Good luck. :)

Any kind of antibiotics works - you're not supposed to drink whilst on them.  Or just say you took an OTC sinus medicine.  Shouldn't really mix those with alcohol, either.

Thanks guys you are the best! I don't know why I didn't think of the medication idea (hormones turning my brain to mush perhaps?) .. mind you they are hard drinkers where I work and are likely to say "ah don't worry about the meds have a drink!" but hopefully it will work ...

It only gets worse! :D
If I were you, I'd pull a medicine-sickness combo, and perhaps purposely act more subdued than usual, that way when you say you're on antibiotics or whatever they don't say "oh but you look/act fine!"

Can't wait to ehar how it all goes off. ;)

Oh well I just mentioned to a colleague that I can't drink at the moment ... she didn't even ask why, just said "good can I have your share of the wine then?" !!
