What's a Blackberry?
« on: November 15, 2006, 01:56:39 PM »
Ive been in the UK for over six years and recently I have noticed in a few new American films the people have 'blackberries'. What is it exactly? Is it a phone? Can you get them here? Are they called something else?  ???

Hand held comutery thing with phone/e-mail/probably tea making capabilities.

And yes, you can get them here, and we call them blackberries too.

Ah thanks Victoria. Im clueless.

so whats the difference between a mobile phone with WAPS and a Blackberry? I have a contract LG 'Chocolate' phone with T-mobile. I can access my email and popluar websites with it.
Also why are they starting to name little electronic gadgets after food?  ::)

Blackberry's are more like mini-computers...you can do way more on them then on any old WAP phone.

Far too complicated for me!

Last time I had a blackberry it was a small black fruit, similar to a raspberry.  ;D

Pebbles -

Bl(cr)ackberry devices are still 'mainly' used in the corporate environment. They basically allow corporate email to be sent in real time to a mobile handset and in turn the handset allows real time sending of replies back - all via the systems in place at the office and deals with airtime providers.

Recently, to add more market appeal, more and more consumers or non corporate people have started wanting them, and so newer handsets have arrived that build in a phone, PDA functions and leisure functions too.

I toyed with the idea of getting one, then junked it as I don't really 'need' it.

Britwife - Enjoyed yer 'raspberries' lately?!!

Hope this helps a bit!
