What kinds of paperwork did you bring over?
« on: December 14, 2006, 05:38:44 PM »
I know this is vague, did any of you bring previous years taxes, bank statements, utility bills, paystubs etc..  What kinds of things did you bring and how far back did you go.

We are moving in Feb for a couple of years, storing everything we have so it'll be hard to get ahold of any paperwork unless absolutely necessary..

I thought of getting letters from Utility companies/mortgage company to say they were paid on time (so we can lease), a letter from the DMV and Insurance company with our no-claims history (for car insurance).  I already have a British bank account.  Don't know if we need our income taxes , I guess a few paystubs?  Any other suggestions for what we may need..

Thanks
Sorry if this has been covered, couldn't find anything in a search.

I have no idea if what we did was well-thought-out in the slightest, so take my answer with a grain or two of salt.

We would have brought copies of tax returns but instead we left them somewhere that is accessible to my family (in the US) if we need them.  Also left most everything relating to our mortgage (US house) with them.  We brought some bank statements, some mortgage statements, paystubs, utility bills.  We've needed NONE of it.  Our landlord only wanted to see that we had income (in the UK).  Auto insurers didn't care about my US driving history or previous coverage.  (as it turns out, my husband's company covers it anyway)

We also brought "official" birth certificates for all of us and our marriage certificate.  Our medical records.  I'm sure I'll remember more as others respond.  :)
