Question regarding work visas/permits

What are the requirements to obtain a work visa? Also, I read somewhere that in 2007, UK is going to be implementing a "two-tier" version of obtaining a work visa. If I remember correctly, there will be two types of visas, one for professionals, and one for non-professional workers. Does anyone have any info on this. I'm new to this forum, so i'm sorry if this has been covered ad nausem.

There are several different kinds of 'work visa', so you need to work out which one fits.

The changes aren't scheduled until 2008.
