How long until....

Don't know if I am posting in the right place but I will give it a try.

If we marry in the US (which would be easier for us given money, relatives, etc.), I won't be able to go back with him right away.  He, however, will return to the UK a week or so later to sort out living arrangements.  He is in the Army and will need to get married quarters, which he can't have until he is officially and legally married. Once that is sorted and my dogs are ready to go, he will fly back over and we will go to NYC to get the spousal visa and we will fly a week later.  Is this feasible or am I going about this all wrong?

Is there a time limit on how long we have until we apply for the spousal visa?

The short answer is no, you can apply for the spousal visa whenever you feel that it will be most successful.  He doesn't need to be with you to get the spousal visa, by the way, so you may not need wait until he gets leave.
