Eurostar Brussels station
« on: December 13, 2006, 10:36:57 PM »
Has anyone done the Eurostar journey to Brussels?  How was the trip and is the station central to the city?
I've only done Eurostar to Paris but we hope to visit friends in Belgium in the new year and like the idea of going Eurostar.  Bruges is the other place we'd be interested in going if we have time, but I've not been to Belgium before so am interested in hearing anyone's experiences good or bad.

Thanks,
Matt

I haven't taken the Eurostar to Brussels but I have been to Belgium. It is a lovely country. Good beer and chocolate and lace!!  ;)

There are three main train stations in Brussels so make sure you know which one is closest to your place to stay. They are well connected.

Bruges is a very nice town too. A nice town square and an easy walk from the train station.

I liked some of the seaside towns too. i can't remember which one I liked most but I saw Ostend, Blankenberge and Knockke. Each had their own feel to it. It is very easy to get around by train in Belgium.

I have been to Belgium, but i flew.
(Eurostar is too much of a hassle when you're starting your journey in Scotland!)

You'll like it... fab people, beer and chocolate.
I stayed in Vilvoorde, just outside of Brussels, and it was a lovely wee town with a nice old church.   Everyone from hotel desk clerk to taxi drivers were fab.   When i asked about a kettle for my room, they went out to the shop and bought me one!  :o  :D

I've gone several times on the Eurostar to Brussels (my hockey team plays over there in a tourney).  It's very easy & a lovely way to travel there.  Brussels has many great restaurants!

I'd go on www.tripadvisor.com to find good hotels...we normally stay outside of Brussels due to the hockey tourney being outside...but eat inside...great restaurants & pubs!

...to Brussels?  ...Bruges is the other place we'd be interested in going if we have time...

We enjoyed Antwerp! :)  But we flew to Amsterdam, and then hopped on the train.

My wife nearly cracked up the first time I said tourney.  It's a very American abbreviation.  Thanks for reminding me of that :)

Thanks for the info about Belgium.  Fortunately, we have some friends who are living outside Brussels for a year or 2 as he is working for a pharma company there so we hope to crash there.  Of course, if a group of us go we may need to get a hotel.  I'd like to visit the seaside places.

Glad to hear the Belgians seem generally friendly!
