Luggage

Anyone know the baggage limitations for international flights?

Need to take as much as I can.

When l flew over here last year the weight limit was 70lbs for piece of luggage!! That was with KLM airlines. It might be different for each airline. If you have your tickets already, in the sleeve of the envelope that holds your tickets, it should say what the restriction should be!

Last year when hubby was coming home, l sent him home with his suitcase, a small piece of luggage, and two nice size duffle bags. They let him carry on one and the other 3 went into the baggage compartment with no problems. Now this was also pre 9/11 so it may have changed!

l was in a panic when l went to the check-in counter because l really felt that my bags were going to be way over the limit!!

Well, when Russ and I flew from Colorado back here, we went on United and were allowed 2 check in and 1 carry on.  And this was in Feb., so post 9/11.  I believe it was something close to 70 lbs. for each check in also, but don't quote me on that part.

I flew northwest and british airlines direct from Detroit and im pretty sure that the limit was 70 lbs , two pieces each...i was over once..so they gave me a cardboard box to put some stuff in....it was two  pieces per person..they let us slide a few pounds....

As with everyone else, I concur with the consensus.  Just very recently when hubby and I were coming back to the UK from our US visit, we took back extra as I still had stuff to bring over and we had to pack very carefully.  United and British Airways both said 2 bags per person, 70lbs weight limit for each bag and one carry on.  Although, BA when we went over the US said there's a weight limit of 5 KG for the carry on.  Ours was 7 and she let it through, but I find it difficult to believe they are strict about this when we saw a guy getting on with a bass guitar as a carry on which I KNOW is way more than 5 KG and plenty of people with huge back packs and dufflebags.  Still, I'd be cautious with your carry on.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I know for carryons you can only have two items. I'll have to ask Jon to look at the tickets, since he's the one who has them. Tickets were unbelievably expensive from the US so we got two roundtrip tickets from Manchester to Phoenix. British Midlands said that's not a problem.

Actually, it's usually one carry-on per person - though for women, your "purse" doesn't count, so I'd make it a big one!  And when we flew Virgin the last few times, they are very strict about it - at least, until you get through security and are faced with all the shoppes before you actually get on the plane...apparently shopping bags are not considered carry-ons?!
