El Panzon!!!

http://www.elpanzon.co.uk/index.htm

I finally tried it out... and well, I must say it is the best Mexican food I've had in London. It was so good I went two days in a row!

I had a burrito the first day with all the usual ingredients...

BURRITO: £5 - 1x large 12" soft flour tortilla filled with meat or filling, Mexican rice, black beans, salsa, guacamole, sour cream & cheese. (A good meal!)

and enchiladas the next...

ENCHILADAS: £8 - An all time favourite with a choice of fillings: beef, chicken or mushroom rolled in corn tortillas covered with a verde sauce made with walnuts & tomatillo.
Finished off with sour cream. Served with rice & refried beans.

The food is great and the prices are good. The opening times aren't the most friendly during weekdays and the location leaves a bit to be desired... but easy to get to off the train or tube (Brixton)

I recommend it!!

Mexican. I am from California and the other Californian I was with agreed it was very good. The burritos made me want to weep with excitement... large and full of goodies.

The kitchen is part of this large bar that has a huge screen TV for football fans. The guy who runs it is from Ireland and told some story about working in a Mexican kitchen on NY and that's how he discovered Mexican food and wanted to bring it to the UK. The people in the back are from Mexico... he says they are engineers just working to live abroad and learn English.

Just wanted to bump this thread up and give my review!

My boyfriend wanted to take me out to dinner as a way to thank me for putting up with the long hours he has been working. Thinking I would choose a cozy, romantic restaurant, I think he was a bit disconcerted when I told him I really wanted to try El Panzon at the Dogstar pub in Brixton.  ;)

So after a short walk from Brixton tube with a wary boyfriend (as stated above, Brixton isn't the nicest of areas!), we arrived at the Dogstar and I immediately became so excited by everything on the menu - so hard to choose! We split the nachos bandera mexicana and the make your own taco platter. It was my boyfriend's first time ever having tacos, so he had lots of fun choosing all the different things to go in them. The portions were HUGE - I think it was definitely a case of my eyes being bigger than my stomach, and we left feeling very full for a grand total of 22 pounds.

The food was amazing - fresh chips, excellent guacamole, warm tortillas - the best Mexican food I have ever had in London. Staff was very friendly as well. As we live in south London, Brixton is very easy to reach for us and we will definitely be back.

Highly recommended!

Right.  After this thread, and browsing the website, I'm sold!

How do I get there from Waterloo or London Bridge stations?  Train, tube, bus...?  (Never been to Brixton!)   :o   :-X

I finally got  down to Brixton to try this place.
Sorry, but I give   it two thumbs down.
First off, I went with the intention of ordering  enchiladas, but  they had taken them off the menu. In fact only burritos and tacos were  still available as main dishes. The three of us all got burritos  and shared an order of guacamole. The guac was salty and  had too much onion. The burritos  were tiny and the three or four  strands of shredded cheese they  put on top was just sad. They tortillas weren't even full, which, considering they use the same 12" ones available in Tesco's made the £7 ea. price tag ridiculous. Additionally  they were cold  when they were brought out, even though the place was busy at the time.

My advise is to save yourself the trip  and just pick up some ingredients from El Azteca and make your own at home. The family that runs El Azteca is alot nicer then the employees at El Panzon too.

oh that's a shame.  :-\\\\ I haven't been back since the first time I went. You know how businesses can go.  :-\\\\

Thanks for the El Azteca link. I will have to check it out. I go to Victoria a lot.

I had been meaning to add - went back a 2nd time - and I agree with Passionfire - highly disappointed.   :( The service was awful, and the nachos tasted terrible! Not sure how in 2 weeks it managed to change - but it did. I will keep trying, hopefully it was an off night, as I live very close to it, but go with an open mind! Very sad as after the first trip, I was so excited about it. Imagine my embarrassment when I told all my friends about it, took them there, and had a horrible meal!
