Is my US medicine available in the UK?
« on: December 27, 2006, 04:42:11 AM »
I have been on the same medication since May 2005, and need to use it for the next 2 years. Now that I am moving to the UK in a short 6-8 weeks, I wanted to find out if this medication (bromocriptine/parlodel) is available as my doctor here in the US stated it should be. (Where can I go to find out). I also have an ILE and wondered if I am able to use the NHS on my spousal visa. (I believe I do, but just need to clarify it as I will need to find a GP soon after arriving, as I will not have enough of this med to last, unless my PCP out here will give this to me in advance... ). I have an HMO in the states and it will not cover more than a month at a time.
Thanks!

I just went to the NHS site: http://www.nhs.uk/
... and typed in 'bromocriptine' in the search box. It came up, so I'm guessing that means it's available here.

Hiya
I agree with Chary. I typed Parlodel into my online BNF(british national formulary) its a uk drug reference site that is used by nurses and drs.. Its the online version of the printed versions of the BNF and they are frequently updated.
Parolodel is in there.. Soooo long story short.. LOL Don't think you should have a problem getting it prescribed here. :)

Thanks Chary and Kaylesh! I didn't have a clue where to look to see if it was available. I feel okay about this now.
