How do you weigh your bag ahead of time to know if it's 50lbs or less before flying? I don't have a big enough scale. I'm glad we can still to 2 bags to/from the US, I read it wrong before. I too was hoping to move some things over there as luggage...

I've always used a bathroom scale. Weigh yourself without the bag. Weigh yourself holding the bag. The difference is the bag.  :D

There are also luggage scales you can buy, that have a handle and hook so you can hold it up and see the scale.

I was over (corn tortillas weigh a LOT ;) ), but magically, we said nothing, the guy who checked me in said nothing...

...and are you going to share??  ;)

I do the bathroom scale thing. It is a big awkward but I usually add a few pounds for the sake of it and usually end up being over. Last time I was at LHR, there were lots of scales around people could weigh their bags in advance. I like that idea. Much better than trying to move things around last minute.

Thanks! It does sound akward holding the heavy suitcase with you on the scale, but I'm trying to  cut expenses and not accumulate new things since I'm hoping to move over this summer.

Courtney, I had no idea you were such a snob!! Oh, what I would do for a fresh flour tortilla right now!!!

back to luggage... another thing I do if it is very awkward to hold is to weigh everything separately... l usually have things in vacuum bags or boxes within the luggage. That seems to work too.

It's true!  ;D

It IS awkward to use a bathroom scale, but I like the buddy system. You hold it and someone else reads the weight. My sister didn't even own a scale before my last trip home but she does now. If I am allowed 50 lbs, I plan on using every bit of it.  ;D
